Simple Way to Refresh Curly Synthetic Wigs

Jan 16, 2015

Wearing curly synthetic wigs is a perfect way to change up your hairstyle, or cover thinning or damaged hair. As we know, synthetic wigs are made to mimic the look and feel of real human hair. However, even the best curly synthetic wigs can become dirty and dull over time without proper care. If you have wore your cheap curly synthetic wigs for a long time, then it's time to give them an instant makeover with some light cleaning and an updated style.

Cleaning the Curly Synthetic Wigs

1. Place the wig on the head mannequin and brush the hair. For a knotted or matted wig, start at the ends of the hair and work up, combing 1 inch sections of hair at a time.

2. Fill a sink with cold water and add 1 tbsp. of wig shampoo. Submerge the wig and agitate for about two minutes. Do not rub the wig or use hot water, this can cause hair to fall out.

3. Rinse the wig thoroughly under the faucet with cold water. After all of the soap is out, gently towel dry and place the wig on the top of a can of hairspray to dry. Do not use the mannequin head for drying, this could stretch the cap.

4. Place the wig on the head mannequin after it has dried completely. Spray a small amount of synthetic wig conditioning spray on the wig and brush the hair. Style as desired.

Cutting and Styling the Curly Synthetic Wigs

1. Have a professional hairdresser to cut or trim the wig. Wear the the wig while it is being cut. Do not attempt to cut the wig yourself. Cutting a synthetic wig should be left to experienced professionals.

2. Place the wig on a head mannequin for styling. Use a brush and comb as well as a spray bottle of water to achieve you desired look. For more complicated styles use a small amount of mousse or hair gel made for synthetic wigs to keep hair in place.

3. Spray the hair lightly with wig hair spray to set the style. Hold the can of hairspray about 12 inches away from the wig.
